Recruitment at Mouse Click

By POONAM ASHARA It’s hard to imagine why anyone would pick up a newspaper to find a job any more. With a seemingly endless array of career sites, mailing lists, corporate sites and newsgroups, job seekers have more options online than ever before. And the credit goes to the growth and advances in Information Technology (IT). Traditionally job seekers most preferred channel was Newspapers & Personal Referrals. As for online recruitment, the medium has come a long way in the last 3 years, but it remains a tool that has only been put to the test in a candidate-rich environment. Along with the IT revolution in the recruitment channel the current market has four clear segments - Corporate Sites, Personal Referrals, Newspapers, Recruitment Agencies & Job Sites. Online recruitment has an edge over other traditional media for four clear reasons: * REACH * SPEED * COST * QUALITY According to The Top-Consultants.com 2004 Recruitment Channel Survey result Corporate Sites have been slowly increasing their share of applications over the last 3 years up from 8 % to 13% of all application. Executive Recruitment Agencies generate 21% of direct applications, which was initially 50% of all applications. Job sites have significantly increased its share by generating more CV applications than any other recruitment channel. Newspaper advertising appears to be the channel that has declined as a result now generating less the 19% of management consultancy applications, or a fraction of what was being generated in the late 1990s. Personal Referrals generates 9 % - 10% of all applications proving it to be a secured channel for a new job or career shift. But this raises a question which recruitment to adopt. Currently the majority of companies are yet to make full use of the web as a recruitment tool. The key trends in these market depicts that Recruitment Consultancies & Job Sites are able to generate large volumes of applicants. Personal Referrals potentially is able to reach a wider pool of candidates, but only it succeeds only in generating a small number of applications. Newspapers: It is clear that candidates now use this channel less than in the past. Corporate websites is still unexplored tool. CORPORATE SITES It has the large potential to significantly increase the volumes of applicants in the next 1- 2 years. The share of applicants can be doubled & become one of the major recruitment channels. But they are the least-used channels in todays market, despite heavy investment made by companies in developing this technology. Inadequate marketing and a poor user experience are to be blamed. Its high time corporate understand that developing their career pages is equal to heavy investment made on ones own infrastructure or purchasing a costly software which will enable smooth functioning. Corporate websites have the considerable recruitment savings potential that is yet to be realized. They are the most attractive pool of jobs of any recruitment channel. Most jobs never get advertised on Internet job boards or in newspapers. But the fact is that they generate less than a third as many applicants as internet job boards is a reflection of how poorly this tool is utilized and poorly marketed. Corporate should design & develop their career pages in such a manner that attract more applications from the best candidates in other words a career site should be capable of maximizing the conversion rate of no. of people visiting the career pages. The hindrances can be overcome by the adopting following strategies: 1. SITES SHOULD BE INTUITIVE Good site navigation and structure not just in company profile section but also within the careers section that will encourage the candidates to explore & learn more about your company. Candidates are judgmental and bugs, errors or poor site design will make them question the caliber of the whole organization. Make your careers section visible. It should be tempt a candidate to visit your careers page if not for applying but at least to know what kind of career your company offers. Apart from this a candidate while leaving your site should have the images of your company vision, mission, recent achievement, future development, press releases etc. 2. JOB VACANCIES Many sites fail to provide clear job description about the opening. A vacancy posted should allow a candidate to self-select himself for the same and not waste his time applying for which he would be rejected. It should clearly define about the role, skills required technical skill & soft skill, education qualification, experience, and other details like work environment what your company/department is like, no. of openings, date specific posting, other benefits, bench marked industries, sales pitch questions etc can be included which will act as added role in convincing the candidate that the openings are real time opportunities. 3. TIPS FOR CAREER ADVANCEMENT Content of your career section also play a vital role. Candidates appreciate when apart from applying for job posting they are guided on their career advancement. Tips for case studies, interviews, securing job, presentations, handling office politics, communication skills, team work etc can be few topics that can form part of your career site. 4. CV SUBMISSION Candidates prefer sites where they are allowed to submit their existing CV rather than recreating a CV online. A long application form seems to be very tedious as most of candidates take the decision to apply sitting at their work place. And its logically not possible making a person to fill the lengthy application form sitting few yards away from his boss or from dial-up connection at home. CV submission not only comforts candidates but also attracts quality candidates by not forcing them to re-enter information that is already in his CV. 5. A CLEAR RECRUITMENT PROCESS Allowing online tracking of how the candidate application proceeds will make a candidate believe in the recruitment process. Transparency is what a candidate looks for. Giving a user id to the candidate, sending your Newsletter, career tips, current openings, etc will help you to retain the best candidates interest in joining your organisation. The recruitment process should be automated but it does not hold good of sending an automated rejection emails on submission of his CV. 6. INTERACTION & FEEDBACK According to The Top-Consultants.com 2004 Recruitment Channel Survey candidates like to provide information and then see that what is presented to them in turn has been tailored to their needs or circumstances. Candidates resent firms that do not keep them in the progress of their application this left candidates with a less favourable impression of the firm. Feedback form, site page rating, email to a friend can be a few content of your site which will save you from getting a feedback candidates as sending my CV into a black hole. Incorporate a refer this job to a friend link on your careers pages, that allows readers to send a recommendation for a particular job on to their friend and colleagues. 7. BRANDING Whenever you post job adverts to job sites, be sure to include a link within your advert to your own careers website. Most job boards will not charge for this inclusion in your advert, but it is a great branding exercise for you as it ensures that candidate awareness of your corporate careers pages is magnified. Over time, more and more candidates will come direct to your site as a result. Putting theses strategies in to action will surely help you to attract lots of good traffic to your site. A Child’s Self Image

By Sue DeFiore With all the focus on weight today it is not surprising that children are starting to look at their bodies at earlier ages. Children as young as 7 years of age are asking parents about their bodies. Where are they getting it from? Well, I would imagine television, magazines and the internet are some of the places. However, as we were all children once, it is also coming from other children. I can still remember well kids making fun of other children. While I never participated in it, I was a recipient of it, so I know how it feels. While mine wasnt weight related, it still hurts. From what I am seeing and reading it is even nastier and more prevalent in our schools today. So, what do you say to your child when they ask you if you think they are overweight, fat, or whatever adjective was used by another child when taunting them. As hard as it is, you will need to convey to your child that everyone is different. How we look and grow will depend on how we take care of our bodies. Explain to them how body types are dependent upon family, eating habits and physical activity. Also be sure to tell them that they are and will be growing and changing until their teens. If you have pictures of yourself or others in childhood and then adulthood show them those pictures to give them an idea of changes that occur. Please be sure to talk to your child and do so carefully and seriously about this. It is very very important that your child realize he must eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, to take his/her vitamins and to drink their milk. Dont just ignore this discussion. Children are growing up faster and faster today and becoming aware much earlier in life of their body image. How children and adults view themselves is one of the classic signs of anorexia and other eating disorders. If you feel you are not qualified to handle their questions, please consult a professional to do so. Work Accident Compensation Following A Machinery Accident

By Ranj Kaur Thousands of people in the UK are employed in jobs which require the use of dangerous machinery. In 2004/5 57 plant, process and machine operatives were killed whilst carrying out work tasks compared to 2 people in administrative and secretarial occupations. Wood working machinery causes more injuries from work accidents than machinery in any other sector. The risks to health are obvious, machines with movable working parts carry the risk of trapping workers, between rollers or cogs, entangling limbs, when there are rotating or moving parts or ejection, from grinding wheels or drills. Personal injuries can also be caused by straightforward contact with moving parts such as drill or sander which can cause abrasions or friction burns. Workers are also at risk from non mechanical faults and hazards such as electrical risks, noise, vibration, dust and fumes. All of these can cause considerable work related injury from electrocution to dust related cancers. By law all machinery should have safety guards so that moving or dangerous parts are kept away from reach. If dangerous parts are within reach then they should be properly covered to prevent access. If guards can be removed, for example to be cleaned, then proper supervision should be given in order that operatives do not remove the guard at any other time. Guidelines to prevent a work accident In order to prevent an accident at work that could potentially endanger someones life there are some guidelines that should be followed when machinery is used. The guidelines are as follows: Everyone using a piece of machinery should be fully trained and checklists should be used to ensure that all important points are covered The proper guards should be used and signs displayed to remind workers to use the guards. Guards should be in place before the machinery is started The areas around the machinery must be kept clean and tidy and free from obstructions There should be clear space around the machinery so that the risk of accidental interference from other workers is reduced Lighting should be sufficient around the machinery. Flickering lights should be fixed as they can cause problems with moving parts Appropriate clothing should be worn when using machinery If a machine is broken it should be clearly signed to prevent workers from using it and possibly causing a work accident Making a work accident claim If you have been in a work accident and sustained a personal injury then you may be entitled to claim personal injury compensation. All employers are responsible for providing a safe working environment. If they have failed in their duty of care and you have sustained an injury as a result then you are entitled to seek compensation. Funding Part-Time Education

By Morgan James Being a part-time student has advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes it seems like every program is geared towards full-time students. How can you pay for your education and make both your budget and time work? As a part-time student, you have some advantage over full-time students. You can work more hours during the school year to earn more money. However, you might be a part-time student so that you can take care of your children, or because you volunteer someplace. These are the times when it can be harder to fund part-time education. Full-time students get a discount on tuition: generally, each of their courses is less expensive than each of yours. This means that you will be spending more money to go to school. Full-time students also have the advantage that they get more funding from scholarships, bursaries, and other sources. Its disappointing to see full-time status as a requirement on so many applications. You can apply for loans designed specifically for part-time students. You want to find a loan that best matches your profile. If you are working, you might be able to begin paying the loan back right away. If you are not working, then you will want a loan that you dont have to pay back for at least a few years, and ideally until you have done your school. This isnt a problem if you will one be in school two or three years (taking a one-year diploma or certificate, for example). However, if you are doing an undergraduate degree that takes four years typically, on a part-time basis this will likely take you six to eight years. One way to finish your degree faster and still be a part-time student is to take classes during the entire year. Many full-time students only take classes for two semesters a year, or eight months. If you take half the classes for the full year, you will have done 75% of the courses a full-time student takes. This means that you will be done school sooner, and increases your chances of getting a loan that you dont have to repay until you graduate. The key to being a part-time student is time management. If you have kids at home, you will need to block out certain hours a week to work on school. If you are working full-time and taking courses on the side, it might seem like the reading is the least important thing for you to do. Keeping on top of your schoolwork now will make it easier when crunch time rolls around and you are doing exams, essays, and reports. If you are going to school part-time to increase your skills for your job, you might be able to get your employer to pay for all or part of your education. Even if your education is not directly related to your job, you might be able to get special scholarships because of your association with your workplace. Ask your employer and ask your school about what is available. Your schools office of student awards and financial aid will be able to help you discover certain awards that are only awarded to part-time students. The Organization of Part-time University Students (or OPUS) can help you find work, find scholarships, and discover new ways to pay for your education. If your school is not affiliated with OPUS, you can check them out on the web, and go to your schools equivalent department. Time management skills will also increase your ability to earn money. This will help you pay for your education faster. And the skills that you develop in time management (organization, work ethic, planning) will also help you in your money management. Manage your money wisely. It can be difficult when you are a part-time student and all of your friends are not in school. They might be out at the bars or shopping all the time, but you have to be realistic about what you can afford. Choose cheaper options, like having your friends over instead of going out, to help make your lifestyle fit your means. Going to school part-time can be a lot of hard work, but the end result is ultimately rewarding. Explore your options with your school, with your bank, and with your employer to work out the best deal for you. Morgan James is the editor of The Guide to Student Loans. The Guide to Student Loans contains all the information that you need to get ready to go back to school without breaking the bank. Use Rose Essential Oil for Depression and Fatigue

By Talia Mana Rose oil is one of the most popular essential oils. It has a rich floral fragrance conjuring up images of romance, luxury and pampering. More importantly its properties are said to be: AntidepressantCalming, Soothing, Relaxing, RestfulSensuous, AphrodisiacUpliftingBalancingImproves confidenceReduces fatigue, stress and exhaustionRose oil is made from rose petals. As you can imagine it takes a lot of petals to produce a very small amount of oil. Estimates suggest that it may take a ton of petals to produce 300 grams of Rose Oil. Unfortunately the real McCoy is very expensive, however you can buy the more affordable Rose Geranium (also known as Rose-French oil) which seems to work almost as well at one-tenth of the price. It contains many of the same ingredients as Rose - geraniol, linalool and citronellol - and it has similar properties and scent. I use it as a perfume when I’m going out (great for dates) or when I feel tired or agitated. I have found it works extremely well. If I have a meeting that might be stressful or a speaking engagement I put a drop or two on my wrist and sniff my wrist whenever I feel my mood or energy levels drop. According to Medical Aromatherapist, Tania Cottew three drops of Rose Geranium oil are equivalent to one drop of Rose Oil for the emotional aspects such as depression - hmmm maybe it’s not such a bargain after all! Applying essential oils direct to the skin is not usually recommended, however Rose Geranium does not inflame the skin as other essential oils can. If your skin is sensitive I suggest you place a few drops of the oil on a tissue or hanky and sniff this or pop it in your top pocket. You can also place this by your pillow for an improved night’s sleep. Alternatively you can add Rose Geranium to a carrier oil such as almond oil and apply this directly to your skin. Why Do You Need A Hospital Program For Cholesterol Monitoring?

By Javier Fuller Maintaining a desired cholesterol level is a must for you. For, there are many serious implications of wrong cholesterol levels. It is thus recommended to adopt a cholesterol monitoring program to keep a required control on your health conditions. Many hospitals have developed their special cholesterol monitoring programs for the benefit of patients. But before you get your cholesterol level monitored in any of these hospitals, you must know a few basics about the cholesterol. First things first, cholesterol is not bad for your health as such. If it were bad, there would not have been a regular cholesterol manufacturing unit within your body. The problem is all about improper levels of cholesterol. Excess of everything is bad and so is the case with the cholesterol. Short supply is also equally bad. As you try to understand the working of the cholesterol, you also need to know what is good cholesterol and what is bad cholesterol. The cholesterol level is actually the combination of different components. When this combination is distorted you have bad cholesterol. The condition does not pose any outward symptoms. There are no forewarnings. And such ignorance about your condition poses high danger for future. Therefore, people who are living with high cholesterol level and high blood pressure condition and those who smoke and have the family history of heart disease or heart attack need to have the cholesterol levels checked regularly. Also for the diabetic patients, the check up is a must. Getting your cholesterol level checked in a hospital, where modern checking facilities are available is a double benefit scheme. You come to know the condition of your heart, the ill boding chances for a heart attack. Suitable remedial measures could be initiated with proper counsel from your physician or the hospital authorities thus. The cholesterol monitoring hospital program makes use of cholesterol monitors along with professional screening devices. Such facilities help the patients manage their cholesterol levels in a more effective way. The data collected by such regular check ups will help your physician/hospital authorities to arrive at correct conclusions regarding the state of your health and make suitable alterations in the treatment course. When you understand your cholesterol condition better, naturally you would do much better to improve your condition. http://www.urcholesterol.com/ & Cholesterol Monitoring provides detailed information on cholesterol, cholesterol levels, cholesterol foods and more. The Debate on Public Prayer

By Michael Heindel The debate of prayer in public schools is a particularly heated one in which the opposing sides feel very strongly that they are in the right. Prayer in the public school system will be used as an example for the purpose of this article but it is not the only instance of public prayer that is often denied by state and federal laws. Christians, especially, come under attack for advocating for student guided prayer on a voluntary basis. They feel that as long as those who do not wish to pray are not being forced to do so, there is no reason why those who want to share in prayer services should be denied the right to do so. A number of legal issues such as separation of church and state and freedom of speech are often discussed in relation to the issue of public prayer. Those against prayer in the public school system argue that prayer in schools is tantamount to the government imposing prayer, and by extension religion, on the students while proponents of prayer in school argue that students who wish to pray are being denied their constitutional right of free speech. Shouldnt Christians Pray in Private? Those who argue against public prayer often point out Matthew 6:5-6 which states, And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love and pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of menwhen thou prayest, enter into the closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father. Those who oppose public prayer point this verse out to prove their point that prayer should be kept private. They argue that the bible explicitly condemns public prayer as being hypocritical. However, Christians are aware that this passage was meant to condemn hypocrisy rather than to condemn public prayer. There are numerous biblical examples that show Jesus praying with others. It is through these references that Christians receive their confirmation of the power of public prayer. In these examples their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reached out to those around them to embrace them in prayer. Prayer in public for the purpose of being noticed and making sure that others notice your prayer is hypocrisy while prayer in public that is offered with sincerity and without pretension can be extremely powerful. Why Christians Advocate for Public Prayer Although the freedom of speech argument is often made by Christians who are seeking the rights for students to pray in school, the reasoning behind their passion for the subject is not related to political interpretation or constitutional rights. Christians understand the value of public prayer and of praying for others and do not want their children to miss out on the opportunity to pray with their friends. Public prayer can be extremely powerful. Every Sunday Christians around the globe gather together to worship and unite in prayer. Through public prayer the power of the prayer is magnified exponentially. The sincere prayer of an individual is powerful in itself but when this prayer is united with the prayer of others, there is no limit to what prayers can accomplish. Michael Heindel is the owner of PrayerRequestBox.com, a website for posting prayer requests and for praying for those in need. http://www.PrayerRequestBox.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Heindel http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Debate-on-Public-Prayer&id=184886 is it safe to purchase xanax online find money order xanax xanax online cod onlinr pharmacy xanax

Choosing Mail Order Gourmet Meat Cuts

By Claire Calkin Buying meat is one of the finest delicacies left in gourmet food. There are so many cuts, tastes, and styles of preparation, filets, and seasoning to delight and tingle all senses. Saving money on gourmet meat can be easy, just follow the few basic rules that follow. When selecting a meat cut remember that the more taken to prepare this cut will mean that it is more expensive and this doesnt necessarily mean it will taste better though. Choosing to have the meat with a bone in or filleted is up the persons preference. The bone in is cheaper than filleted as this cut has taken less time to prepare. Meat with bone in will also cook faster as the bone acts as a heat conductor and cooks it faster. Filleted meats also may have less flavor than a cut with bone in. Selecting meat can be time consuming and expensive if you are not sure what you want. Be prepared with a list of the cuts and styles you want before you leave home so you have an easy, convenience meat shopping expedition. Meat cuts are not all created equal. The more expensive cut is usually from a particular part of meat that is more tender and not a working muscle. The more expensive cuts usually come from the ribs, rump and loin of the animal. The working muscle usually refers to the shoulders and flank. Cooking these cuts also needs to be taken into consideration. To get the best taste out of your meat cook your more expensive meats for a short period of time with a high heat. The cooking time for working muscle cuts should be longer and cooked over a low heat. If meat is labelled as top sirloin, stewing, bottom round, marinating and top round then this mean will take longer to cook. Luxury and more expensive meats that use words such as tenderloin, T-bone, grilling and porterhouse, on the label need to be cooked faster on high heat. Save money when buying your meat by selecting cuts that have taken less time to be serviced. This refers to the preparation of the meat and this includes slicing up, tying the meat together, and removing skins or bones. Marbling is a term used with meat and this means the fat strips that are visible along the sides of the meat. This fat is not necessarily bad for you. Most people think that removing this fat will be healthier for them. When the fat is removed flavor is lost. Choose meat that has flecks of fat rather than strips on your meat cuts, this will obtain the flavor and be healthy too. If the meat at the butcher looks or smells funny I suggest you go to another butcher. These are prime tell tales that the meat is not up to grade. Meat should smell fresh and the meat should be firm rather than tough or too soft. If the meat looks or feels funny it may have been sitting out for too long. The colors of the meat can also tall the buyer if it is a good cut or not. The meat should be a dark red color as this means the meat has been prepared and cut recently. The best before date on labels should have the date and time it was prepared and packed. The amount of meat that a person should eat at a mealtime is equivalent to a deck of cards or a clenched fist. Have plenty of vegetables with your meal as well as grains to keep your meal balanced. Meat is usually graded on a meat grading system that determines the quality of the meat. This USDA system will grade the meat from good to bad. There are also grading systems for commercial, standard meat and poultry. http://www.gourmet-meats.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Claire_Calkin http://EzineArticles.com/?Choosing-Mail-Order-Gourmet-Meat-Cuts&id=116273 valium without prescription valium oxycodone online where can i buy valium online valium no prescription needed

4 Easy Ways to Become the Bad Boy That All Women Want

By Scott Patterson Let’s face it All women love bad boys who live exciting lives and aren’t afraid to be themselves. While many girls claim they’re looking for a “nice guy”, deep down they secretly desire the men who give off the tough guy persona that is shown on movies and television. The best example would be rock and roll stars. Most women know these guys are surrounded by beautiful women. But they still line up in the hundreds and thousands just to be near them. So what makes rock and roll guys have hypnotic effect on women? Well a lot of it has to do with the ‘bad boy’ attitude they project. These dudes know how to cultivate a specific personality which makes women crazy with desire. Fortunately there is a way you can project the ‘bad boy’ image without starting your own rock band or dressing up in an all leather outfit. In this article, I’ll show you four simple ways you can create your own ‘bad boy’ persona without resorting to tricks or gimmicks. 1) You project a confident and relaxed attitude Being a ‘bad boy’ is all about your personality. If you study the guys who attract a ton of women into their world, you’ll see that all of them have lots of confidence. In order to be like them, you have to project the same type of attitude. In a nutshell, ‘bad boys’ act in a confident and relaxed manner in every situation they encounter. This means they’re never rattled by any situation. To be like them, you must learn to project a confident aura. Even if you’re not feeling particularly confident, you have to practice or at least fake this attitude. 2) You never fall for a woman’s tests- Women test guys all the times. The reason they do this to see how much they can manipulate us and control our actions. Now one of the principles of being a ‘bad body’ is to never take part in a woman’s test. Whenever she tries to create drama or force you to do something, you either ignore her requests or simply call her out on her actions. The bottom line is you don’t fall for her tests and NEVER kiss hers a**! Instead you behave in a manner where you’re in control. If you want to do something nice for her, you do it on your terms, not hers. 3) You act like you don’t care about hooking up- Another way to act like the ‘bad boy’ stand out from the other guys is to act like you don’t care about ‘hooking up’ with a woman when you’re talking to her. What’s great about this attitude is you appear to be different the other men who spend the majority of their time making overt attempts to seduce women. While they wine and dine women, you spend time enjoying their company, but not ‘putting the moves’ on them. By acting like you don’t care, you’ll look like a prize she has to obtain. One of the basic principles in psychology is how people always want what they can’t have. By creating an aloof, ‘I don’t care’ attitude, you’ll make her work for your affections. As a result, she’ll be chasing after you instead of the other way around. 4) Your life is exciting- If you pay attention to romance novels, then you know that women are turned on by guys who live exciting lives. In other words, they’re attracted to men who aren’t afraid to take risks and like to have adventures. Now I don’t mean you should be leading safaris through Africa or start BASE jumping off large buildings. Instead you should have interesting stories to tell and have a few hobbies that make you stand out from other men. So if you want to appear to have an exciting life, you have to do exciting things. If you don’t have an interesting hobby, get out there and start finding fun stuff to do! Once you learn to be an exciting guy who projects a confident and strong attitude, you’ll have created the perfect ‘bad boy’ attitude. Then all you have to do follow these 4 tips I discussed in this article and you’ll transform yourself into the guy who women secretly desire. Creating A Container Garden

By R Birch Container gardens are the perfect way to add texture, color and fragrance to a terrace, balcony or deck. They often provide the only way for people who live in apartments or urbanized areas to garden. Most plants, including evergreens, herbs, perennials and annuals, can be used in a planter. Container gardens soften the hard lines of a paved patio and can provide privacy on a large terrace. Planters can be grouped for a massed effect on a large patio while a single potted specimen is effective in a small space. To vary the theme of your container garden over the course of the year be ready to replace flowers that have finished blooming with something new. Container gardening allows you to easily change the color scheme of your garden throughout the season. For instance, spring bulbs can be replaced with summer blooming annuals. Annuals, in turn, can be replaced with chrysanthemums and asters for fall color. Evergreens, such as the Alberta spruce and holly, provide interest through the winter. If you have steps leading up to your front door, the use planters will charm your visitors. Container gardens can accentuate interesting architectural details. For example, large planters with tall evergreens are great for framing an entry way. When massing your planters, group them in odd numbers rather than even, and try to vary their size and type. Also, be sure to include in your container garden plants of varying of shapes and heights. Take into consideration the shape and texture of the foliage as well; it is these qualities which create interest during lulls in blooming. Indoor, pots of flowers create a cozy and warm atmosphere. Decide ahead of time where you want your pots to be positioned, then buy plants that suit the situation. Try to find locations next to windows since most plants require at least some sun during the day. Some plants, such as those which grow extensive root systems, are more suited for the outdoor garden. Experiment with different types of containers. You can use anything which will hold soil; just be sure to allow for adequate drainage. An old whiskey barrel or copper urn are both suitable and are perfect for a more rustic garden. If your looking for something more traditional, buy your planters at the garden center. They usually have a wide range of colorful terracotta pots. You can also build a planter out of landscape timbers. Plastic pots are inexpensive and can be decorated on the outside with water based paints. When purchasing pots, don’t forget to buy matching saucers to catch any overflowing water. This will prevent cement floors from getting stained or timber floors and decks from rotting. When planting your containers be sure to use a high quality, nutrient rich potting mix as it will feed your plants throughout the season. Also, place a few stones at the bottom pf the pot to allow for drainage. Take some time to plan your container garden before buying your supplies. With a little imagination you can turn any patio or deck, small or large, into a lush year-round garden.
