Skill Sets for Nurses Participating in Healthcare Decision Making Process

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=U._Akinci] U. Akinci Our nurses who would like to participate in the healthcare decision making process must master advanced mass communication skills in order to “work” the media and get the appropriate messages across as wide a cross section as possible. In this day and age of hourly news cycles and instant Internet communication, nurses in such leadership roles must have the skills to understand and manipulate the way the news is created, distributed and consumed. They need to plan their strategies by leveraging such comprehensive media expertise. Again, and related to that, is the necessity for the nursing community as a whole to get involved in better public relations and explain at a higher level the crucial role they play in the national health system. A case in point — go to Google News for example on any given day and make a news story search with the key word “nurse” and you would be surprised at the number of negative stories returned about nurses supposedly “taking advantage” of their patients or displaying some kind of character weakness that none of us associate with this dignified profession. That goes to show that image building and maintenance is a public process that should be tended to with the same care that goes towards nurses’ patients and their professional development. A solid positive image, a “market brand” if you will, that clearly communicates the precious “value added” that nursing profession represents is an invaluable ingredient for all nurses climbing up the proverbial ladder of decision making. It’s the “water” that raises all the “boats” effortlessly. U. Akinci is the Editor of the monthly “Nurse Recruiter Newsletter” published by [http://www.nurse-recruiter.com] nurse-recruiter.com the nation’s premiere travel nurse staffing agency. You’re Halfway There!…Or Not Part 2

By Tresaca Hamilton Now that you have had a chance to create a game plan for accomplishing your business goals during the third quarter of this year, let’s focus on the fourth quarter of this year. These last three months of the year are not only crucial for meeting business goals for this year, they are also crucial for making sure you head into the next year on track towards meeting and exceeding future business goals. Here are some ideas for wrapping up this year on a positive (cash flow and emotionally) note: DURING OCTOBER Create a contest or sponsor an event in your community. If you are creating a contest, think about ways to offer a prize that will benefit the winner as well as your business. Make sure the contest entrants are comprised of your target market. Distribute a press release to help promote your contest. Distribute another press release when the contest is over to announce the winner of the contest, and to demonstrate how your prize benefited the contest winner. If you want to sponsor an event, find an event that will not only give your business appropriate exposure, but will also give you personal satisfaction. This is also the month to start preparing for a Holiday promotion if you haven’t already. Jot down some ideas for special offers that you can give your prospects and clients during the holiday season. Offer a different promotion for each group. Your holiday promotion for prospects should be designed to convert them into clients. Your holiday promotion for clients should be designed to keep them as longtime loyal clients who will continue to increase their lifetime customer value. DURING NOVEMBER It is time to roll out your Holiday specials. Make sure they are sent out during the first week in November, if not sooner. You want your business and your special offers to be on the mind of your target market before they are drowning in offers and ads from other companies trying to persuade them to part with their holiday cash and end of the year budget dollars. It is also time to start reflecting on what has happened with your business during this year. Create a Business Journal and write down business lessons learned, accomplishments, mistakes made, and future business goals. DURING DECEMBER Wrap up the fulfillment of your Holiday Special Offers during the first half of December. Show your appreciation for your clients by giving them a gift to thank them for their business this year. Do this before the second half of December approaches. Instead of sending a run of the mill calendar or holiday card, send a unique gift… A gift that uniquely reflects your business. What can you give your clients that will be valued and used by them on a day to day basis? How can you make your gift do double duty by relating it to your business so your clients will think of your business every time they use your gift? Even a calendar can go from run of the mill to a unique tie in to your business by adding daily or monthly tips to it, and branding it with your logo. During the last half of December, give yourself and your business a gift by slowing down and working less. Take time to enjoy the fruits of your labor by going on a much deserved vacation, or by donating your time and money to your favorite charity. Before you go, don’t forget to give your business the gift of a better future by setting goals for next year. Continue to create a game plan for your goals, and by consistently taking action on your plans, you will give your business a gift that keeps on giving for years to come. Kundalini Questions

By Robert Morgen Alex Wrote; What is the difference after the kundalini awakens, and how do you know if it did? About 25 years ago I was sitting alone by a creek in the morning, not formally meditating (which I’ve never done), just watching the water flow. Suddenly there was an extremely intense ball of energy that formed at the base of my spine, buzzed there for a bit, then shot up my spine and ‘exploded’ in my head and ‘out my eyes’ and turned what I saw into a sort of mosaic made of the colors of what was there, but not the exact forms anymore. A 2nd less intense one happened about 15 sec after the first. It scared me and I kind of blinked myself out of it. Is that a kundalini awakening, and if not, do you know what it was? If it was, how do you specifically use it? Thanks, Alex Hi Alex, You’ve asked a great question that really hits at the heart of kundalini awakening. Having said that, there’s no short answer. You really weren’t expecting a YES or a NO were you? :) At its most basic level awakening the kundalini completes the energy circuit between your ‘potential energy’ (dormant kundalini) and your ‘spiritual energy’ (those are my terms and they merely serve to signify the differences in the energy. Other folks name them differently) at your crown chakra. To paraphrase Glenn Morris “The kundalini just connects your (genitals) to your brain.” Along the way it tends to begin the process of awakening and cleansing and balancing your chakras and cleaning out the rest of your body. Everyone experiences it differently because everyone IS different at that level and we all get what we NEED individually. That’s why some folks refer to the kundalini (Shakti) as ‘intelligent’ energy. So here’s where it gets sticky. EVERYONE whos experienced a kundalini awakening reports differently about it, and any external guidelines about what you SHOULD feel are merely that and can only be taken at face value, which is pretty close to nothing. :) Some people experience very dramatic and extreme effects when their kundalini awakens, and some hit it like a minor speed bump and keep right on the way they were. Some people end up on medication or in an asylum, while some give away all their possessions and pursue a ‘spiritual path’ (which can also lead to asylums, medication and being nailed to the closest available tree) and others just continue on their pre-chosen path almost as if nothing happened. There are a lot of human variables in the above experiences and outcomes, just like anything else. For some people the grand ‘realizations’ are too much to deal with, or the siddhis (magics, extra-sensory perceptions that some people experience) may just be too much to deal with. Others simply don’t recognize what’s happened to them, and you have to face it, we live in a society that doesn’t accept this as part of the norm, so it becomes a curse rather than a cure. Others pursue it as a stepping stone (rather than the destination) on the path to personal mastery. Some seek it as the precursor to ‘Enlightenment’ and pursue it as if attaining it gives them some sort of bonus, like reduced auto insurance rates. Some of the ‘Enlightenment’ seekers have actually managed to turn kundalini awakening into an ego-driven fad, which I find to be extremely amusing. ‘Enlightenment’ only exists as a relative term. There’s complete ignorance and lack of awareness on one end of the scale, and ‘Enlightenment’ on the other. Neither exists independently, but rather as a moment to moment reaction to what’s going on (going Om? Wisdom from the Land of Freudian Typo’s?) around us. Is true enlightenment simply recognizing the connections that we all have to one another and REALLY treating others as we’d want to be treated, loving others as we should love ourselves? Awakening the kundalini or spending a decade in a cave on a mountain doesn’t necessarily make one enlightened. Spending EVERY moment actually IN the moment and responding to the same divine spark in others that we also have within us possibly does. One of the things that kundalini awakening does for a lot of people is get them onto the path they came here (this lifetime) to pursue, hence the dramatic lifestyle changes. Others may always have been on the right path and didn’t need the dramatic changes. In my case the kundalini was sort of like a hidden clue that I left myself before coming back. Once I finally began to pay attention to what was happening (and being particularly dense it was quite a ride) then I was able to finally put a lifetime of strangely jumbled experiences into a real order that made sense and see where it all ties in together and what I’m supposed to do with it. That doesn’t mean that I always (or even frequently) get it ‘right’, but at least I’m to the point where learning the lessons is easier and I can get it through my thick melon with a little less suffering (he said hopefully). :) As to this question; “What is the difference after the kundalini awakens, and how do you know if it did?” The answer is completely up to you and really can’t be verified externally. It’s all about your own self-awareness and your un-self-awareness. There are various signs that you can go by which help, but unfortunately it’s not as simple as passing a test and getting ‘certified’. My ‘first’ kundalini awakening happened while I was in the hospital during a near-death experience, but I didn’t recognize that til over a decade later, in spite of the dramatic things that I experienced. It was only years later when I began to meet others who had experienced it and learn more about it that I realized what had happened. So the short answer that I can give you is MAYBE. :) As to “…how to specifically use it”? I can tell you that EXACTLY. :) What you do to specifically use it is relax and surrender to it and see where it takes you. This requires a certain amount of faith and a willingness to go where it leads, which can obviously be pretty scary. A positive attitude is an absolute necessity here as the kundalini will enhance and magnify whatever you ARE, so spend your time BE-ing something that should be magnified. As Glenn Morris once said in a seminar “The kundalini magnifies you, so if you were an asshole before you awakened then afterwards you become wide and gaping”. I hope all that helps, — Kundalini Questions is an excerpt from Robert Morgens book Kundalini Awakening for Personal Mastery (ISBN: 0-9773801-0-6) His new book Easy Meditation for Martial Artists (ISBN: 0-9773801-3-0) will be available in October, 2006. A Tale of Two Cindys

By Diana Chaloux This is the tale of two girls named Cindy. Cindy A and Cindy B live in the same town, they go to the same school and are in the same grade. Cindy A and Cindy B are the same age and the same height they even have the same color hair! These two girls seem to have a lot in common, but when we take a closer look we will see that even though these two girls seem alike on the outside, they are very different on the inside. Cindy A has a lot of energy. During recess at school she loves to run around the school yard and play games with all of her classmates. She is happy and she is healthy. Cindy A is constantly moving. Her body, her heart and her lungs are all very strong and in good shape. Cindy A is a confident girl, and she is at a healthy weight. This is a girl who is in a great mood most of the time, has tons of energy all through the day and sleeps well through the night. Cindy B is very different. Cindy B doesnt have a lot of energy. She wakes up groggy and is tired throughout the day. She has a hard time paying attention during class. Cindy B doesnt feel like doing much at recess or after school because she is tired. Her free time is spent sitting and watching television or playing on the computer. Cindy B doesnt have a lot of confidence, her muscles are not strong and her weight is steadily increasing. Cindy B knows that she needs to exercise and move her body, but she just doesnt have the energy to do it! So even with all of their similarities it is plain to see that these two girls dont have much in common after all! So why is there such a big difference between them? Why is Cindy B so tired all the time, and why does Cindy A have so much more energy? The answer is fuel! Now I know you are saying. Isnt fuel what you fill your car up with? Yes, that is true, but our bodies operate in much the same way as a car. Food acts as the fuel for our bodies, and if we dont provide our bodies with the right types and amounts of fuel, our bodies will not be able to run properly! The foods that you eat throughout the day affect so many things including your weight, the mood that you are in, your energy levels and even how well you sleep at night! Cindy A starts her day off with breakfast every morning! She knows that this is the most important meal of the day. Throughout the day Cindy A chooses foods that will keep her full of energy. She loves to eat fruits and vegetables, not only do they taste good they also provide her body with valuable nutrients. Cindy As mom knows how important healthy eating is in order for Cindy to stay strong, healthy and full of energy so she keeps the closets and refrigerator stocked with foods such as whole grain breads and crackers, lean meats like turkey and chicken as well as plenty of yogurt, cheese and milk which provide Cindy A with calcium to keep her bones strong! Cindy A drinks plenty of water throughout the day so that her body stays hydrated. Cindy A is like any kid and loves to have special treats such as candy, chips or ice cream, but she doesnt eat these things every day, instead they are for special occasions. Cindy B has a different story. She skips breakfast in the morning. Instead of water or milk, she drinks sodas which are filled with sugar. She eats candy loaded with sugar and fat for snacks. Throughout the day her food choices may include pizza, cheeseburgers, French Fries and other greasy fried foods. These foods not only cause Cindy B to gain weight, they simply dont provide her body with the energy that it needs to function properly. Eating these foods is causing Cindy B to be tired and because of that she barely does any exercise which is causing her muscles to become weak! Her body is dehydrated because she drinks sodas instead of water throughout the day. If Cindy B continues to make these poor food choices, she is in danger of becoming overweight or obese and there is a good chance she could develop diabetes (dy-uh-bee-tees). This is a disease that affects how your body turns glucose (gloo-kose) or sugar, into energy. Having too much sugar in your blood can cause you to get very sick! When we look at the two Cindys it is plain to see how important it is to fuel our bodies with the right kinds of food! Even though these girls seem to be the same, they are totally different when it comes to how healthy they are. So if you want to be strong, healthy and full of energy like Cindy A it is important to make nutritious food choices and stay away from the junk foods and sweets that are causing Cindy B so much trouble! You can do it! I challenge you to make the right food choices starting today! Diana Chaloux is the co-founder and owner of Destined 2 Be Fit (www.destined2befit.com). How You Can Make Prospects Want To Do Business With You

By Kristina Mills People like to know why you are doing something and to be kept informed. Telling them the reason why you are having a sale, or reducing your stock is a powerful way to get them interested. If you are making a special offer or a specific claim when you advertise, state your reason for doing it. Be honest. Youll be amazed how people will respond and buy more of your products. If you have a new product that you are trying to sell e.g. a new type of fire extinguisher, you might want to see how the market will accept it. Instead of selling it for $49 (the usual price) you might advertise it for $34.50. In your advertisement you could say that the reason why you were selling it at this low price was that you wanted more people to use them and see how effective it was. Giving a reason for the low price is a sure-fire winner and will, no doubt, sell many more fire extinguishers. How can you use this marketing strategy in your business? Lets suppose its just before the end of the financial year and you know that business is usually slow at this time of year. You might decide to write a letter, an email, or e-newsletter and announce to your customers that you are going to make them a special offer, which is valid during this period. You could include a special discount, an extra bonus or throw in an extra service. Let people know why you are doing it. Do you have some superseded stock that you want to get rid of before the new shipment arrives? Advertise it and tell your public why you are selling this stock at such a low price. Do you need to have a stocktake and want to get rid of some stock? Tell them why. Give them the reason, but be honest with them. Be up front. If you customers want to know why you are selling things so cheaply, you can say because. I know this probably goes against every grain of business sense, but I promise if you give people a good, believable reason why they’ll respond with open wallets. Even in this digital age of email and the Internet everyone still has a real mailbox. According to “Direct Marketing” magazine, over $36 billion was spent last year on direct mail, eclipsing both print and broadcast. However, the majority of small businesses still do not use direct mail as effectively as their larger counterparts. You see, dollar-for-dollar, nothing provides a better return on investment than direct mail and it doesn’t matter what product or service you sell. Think about it. A sales letter is the most powerful employee you could ever hire. For about the price of a cup of coffee – it will relentlessly go out and deliver your message perfectly, every time. It will never call in sick. It will never complain. And it will never quit on you. Simply put, a powerful sales letter is like having a little automatic, money-making robot working for you, tirelessly…day and night. 5 Ways to Tell Your Man You Love Him

By Steve Ubah Telling your man that you love him is part of assuring him that he is special to you. But it is not enough to verbalize how you feel about your man. To keep your love fire burning, you must find creative and thoughtful ways to express your feelings. If you want to go beyond what is in this issue of my newsletter to share your deepest thoughts, sensuous desires and intimate fantasies, you can do it without writing a single word by using Leslie Karsners Love Letter Generator. For the sake of brevity, I will offer you just 10 creative and thoughtful ways to let your man know he is your number one: Do it with notes: Yes, handwritten notes. It may seem juvenile to some, but writing love notes for your man and placing them where he will find them will put a smile on his face and warm his heart. Place your note in the clothes you know he will wear to work the next day. If he takes lunch to work, pack it for him. You can write your love note on the paper napkin you place in his lunch bag. Imagine how surprised he will be, when he wants to use the paper napkin, and finds what you have written for him. Wrap it in a gift: Use a colored pen or marker and write him a love letter or a thoughtful note on the inside of the gift wrapper. Just be sure to be around when he finds his surprise gift in your bedroom. Tell him to be careful unwrapping the gift, because you want to use the paper to make some interesting work of art, or whatever you think he will believe. When he unwraps the gift, you can bet he will give you a big hug and a kiss. Put a message in a bottle: Find a clear bottle of wine or beer and write your message. Attach a string to your message using with a small safety pin and then place your message in a bottle. Put the bottle in your refrigerator (if you live together) or in his refrigerator, if you are dating. He will be pleasantly surprised when he finds your thoughts in a bottle. Send an e-card: Go online to one of the e-card sites below and send him a card that expresses how you feel. They are fun and free to send. There are tons fun and innovative e-card websites you can visit. Say it with flowers: Yes, flowers. Just as men love to give flowers, they love to receive them as well. The best way to send your guy flowers is to send it to his job. There is just something about receiving flowers in the presence his co-workers. Their impact is quadrupled when he receives them in the presence of his colleagues, as opposed to the relative privacy of your home. Do You Hate Trigonometry?

By Ishani Dutta Accordingly to the conventional definition, trigonometry is that branch of mathematics which deals with relations existing amongst the sides and angles of a triangle. Not your cup of tea, huh? Try out the following steps: 1. Take index cards and cut them into small pieces. Small enough to keep in your pocket and large enough to write one single trigonometric identity clearly. 2. Start with writing 1 identity at the back of 1 index card. An example would be Sin2(theta)+Cos2(theta)=1. Now, divide all the terms by Sin2(theta). Do it your self and see the result. Neatly copy your working on the back of an index card. Write down todays date. This process will take up 15 minutes at the most. 3. Next time, divide all the terms by Cos2(theta). Neatly jot down the working at the back of another index card and put down the date. 4. Do similar divisions of other identities. 5. If you do this once a day for just 3 weeks, you will understand which formula to use when a trigonometry problem stares at your face the next time around. If you still have problems, you can always ask your teacher in school or you can refer the problem to an online tutor. A reasonable good online math tutor should be able to help. Let us try solving out a simple problem based on practical application of trigonometry: Q)A kite is flying at a height of 75 meters from the level ground, attached to a string inclined to an angle of 60 degree to the horizontal. Find the length of the string to the nearest meter. Step1: to start with, first draw the required diagram according to the problem. P M O Step2: Try relating the diagram with the given problem Declare the necessary assumptions: Let P denote the position of the kite, and MP = 75 meters (the height of the kite) And the string be held at the point O, The angle < MOP = 60 degree (given) Therefore, OP is the length of the string Step3: The next step is to apply the appropriate identities. From the right angled triangle MOP, OP = opposite leg of the acute angle < MOP MP = hypotenuse We will apply a basic trigonometric identity here i.e., (opposite leg) / (hypotenuse ) = Sin < MOP [As < MOP is the acute angle and the ratio Sine < MOP is the ratio between opposite leg to the hypotenuse.] We have, (OP) / (M P) = Sin < MOP (OP) / (MP) = Sin 60 [< MOP = 60 (given)] OP = (Sin 60) * (MP) OP = (sin 60) * 75 [MP = 75 (given)] OP = ((√ 3) / 2) * 75 [Sin 60 = ((√ 3) / 2) [value of Sin60 can easily be found out using trigonometric tables of standard angles] O P = ((1.732) / 2) * 75 [(√ 3) = 1.732 (approx.)] OP = 86 .6 [approx. ] So, the length of the string is 86.6 meters (to the nearest meter) For grasping a chapter thoroughly you must solve at least fifteen problems. If you dont want to work that much, try solving the following problem: Q)A pole is being broken by the wind; the top struck the ground at an angle of 30 degree and at a distance of 8 m from the foot of the pole. Find the whole height of the pole. Solve this problem and forget about solving 15 problems. Youd rather do something else! Using Email As A Prospecting & Networking Tactic

By Tino Buntic Two years ago I received an email from a business professional in a related industry to which I am in. The email went something like this: Good day Tino, I happened upon your website and I really loved what I saw. It’s a great site with great information. I found it very useful. I work in XYZ industry, which is related to what you do. How can we work together? I normally dont respond to unsolicited emails. My inbox is full of spam. But this email was different; it was unsolicited but I did not consider it spam. The person that sent the email did three things that were important: 1. He knew what my business was about because he read through my website. Spammers that send bulk emails have no clue who they are emailing. This email was personal. He knew me and he knew my business. 2. He complimented me and my business. Spam emails go right into a sales pitch. 3. He asked me how we can work together. This was a “call to action” and the ball was in my court. And, it was a great call to action. Spam emails will always state that they can help you. This one asked how we could help eachother. The odds of a response with this are much greater. This was one of the few emails that I did respond to. This business professional was looking for ways to get business referrals, something people usually do at business networking functions. Co-operation between related businesses is always better than competition. Using email is also, perhaps, an alternative to cold calling as a tactic for prospecting for sales leads. You could use the same guidelines as the above email. Look at your prospect’s website, compliment him, and ask how the two of you can work together. This will always be better than a direct sales pitch. Not only that, with cold calling you get a lot of rejection and nobody likes rejection. You won’t get any rejection with via email marketing because if a prospect is not interested he just simply wont respond to the email. That means you dont have to listen to a direct rejection over the telephone. Of course, you must be very careful with email marketing. Never send unsolicited bulk emails because that is considered spam. Email prospecting for sales leads can work for you if you do it correctly. Ebay Wedding Planning – Favors, Decorations, and Flowers Galore!

By Stephanie Mulac I wholeheartedly recommend inviting Ebay to your wedding! Well, actually Ebay wont be on your guest list, but if you do your research, the auction giant can be with you in spirit every step along the way. Turn to Ebay for all your wedding planning needs, and you will soon find that you have a better selection than what is available in most local stores. And if you are on a budget, even better, because Ebay is the place to go for all your discount wedding supplies, favors, decorations, gifts, and more. There is a whole segment of Ebay sellers that are ready and waiting to accommodate your wedding planning needs large or small, budget or extravagance. And because the sellers know there is usually a time frame associated with wedding related purchases, most items are also available as Buy it Now, so waiting for an auction to end is not even an issue. Here is just a sampling of some wedding related items that can be had on Ebay: Champagne Flutes There are as many varieties as there are themes and color schemes for a wedding. Crystal, engraved, adorned stems that match handles on cake servers and knives, even glow in the dark for the eclectic amongst us. Wedding Favors These are really fun, especially if you are having a small wedding because, unlike many retail stores the minimum orders are very small and many sellers will accommodate just about any quantity you ask for. There are gorgeous candy wrappers that include foil in multiple colors. Casino chips that contain custom imprints of your name and special day, a face value for the chip and even a graphic! Foil stamped napkins are also a popular favorite and come in about 2 dozen color and graphic choices. There are heart shaped measuring spoons, measuring tape and about 10 other related items with the theme Love Beyond Measure. Sachets, candles, and a myriad of other items that can be sold as is, or engraved for that special touch. Unity Candles Another popular category, due in large part to the emergence of weddings that include blended families. I would wager you could scour every store in your area for Unity Candles and you will not find any that come with more than two tapers. After all, the original concept of the Unity Candle was the joining of two. However, Unity Candle ceremonies are starting to involve more than just two and children are often a part of this touching ceremony. But that leaves a need for more than just two taper candles. Up steps the Ebay sellers to the plate. Since many of them are making custom candles, with you own personalized poem or saying on them and decorations to match the wedding colors, they also have the ability to put together any number of taper candles as well. This is something you wont find in most places. Ring Pillows and Flower Baskets Much the same as the Unity Candle makers, these crafty Ebay sellers are making all type of custom baskets and ring pillows for the little ones special part in your ceremony. There are embroidered varieties as well as a host of options for color and trim selection. Banners and Decorations If youve tried to purchase any type of vinyl banner lately, you know the prices are sky high, mainly due to the fact that people in the market for a vinyl banner are usually businesses and the banners are priced accordingly. So a consumer looking for a durable Just Married banner, can end up finding nothing but commercial pricing. Ebay to the rescue once again, youll find a banner to your liking in no time at all. Flowers No wedding is complete without the flowers and Ebay offers a huge variety for any and all purposes. A favorite choice amongst brides who want to have a hand in their own flowers are wholesales of artificial flowers. The selection is endless and the photos are absolutely wonderful, so it is very easy to determine what you are getting both in color and flower type. Buying multiple quantities of sprays, bouquets, garland, etc. all give you the opportunity to break apart the bundles and create any type of custom bouquet or headpiece you desire. This is just the tip of the iceberg as to what is offered on Ebay and with diligent research, you will find inspiration for many other ideas as well. On average, many of the sellers who specialize in wedding supplies are artists and craftsmen and they take great pride in what they produce. You will see this reflected in very positive feedback on most sites. If not, simply steer clear and go on to the next seller. All in all, a little research and common sense will be your guide and when your special day is over, you will almost feel like sending Ebay a thank you note for the special part they played in your wedding!
